National Spouses Day
In appreciation of my most amazing spouse, I wanted to call attention to a national day that you may or may not have heard about: National Spouses Day is January 26th! This day is dedicated to showing our love and appreciation for the ones we share the beautiful bond of marriage with.
Of course, I have always adored my husband but this past year, my adoration, love, and respect have increased tenfold. If you’ve been following my blog or keeping up with us on our live CGE Q&A Wednesdays, you know that my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer a few months ago. I can’t even begin to put in words how difficult this road has been. Our normal, everyday routines have been shaken, physical & mental strength challenged, and our faith tested. But my husband and I are very faith-filled people and our bonds with God and each other just grew stronger everyday. To me, this is what marriage is all about. It’s about loving one another through it all; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most importantly, it’s about being able to recognize that even during times when things look like they could fall apart at any moment and little bits of doubt attempt to creep in, no matter what you’re facing, you and your spouse come together, remember what God says about marriage and you tell those inklings of doubt to get lost! (2 Cor 10:5)
With all of that being said, celebrating your spouse on National Spouses Day isn’t about gift giving. It’s about expressing your gratitude and appreciation for all of the things they do for you, whether they be in the home or in the heart. You can celebrate your spouse by simply doing something for them that they always do for you. If they’re the ones that make breakfast every morning, beat them to it. Even something as simple as a hand-written note left in their planner, car, or wherever they’re most likely to look is a nice surprise. When we spend everyday with someone we can sometimes forget that the tiniest gestures can serve as huge reminders that they’re loved and appreciated.
So what tiny gesture are you going to do toward your spouse for National Spouses Day? I’d love to hear about them!
